HDR Engineering is seeking a Data Center Substation Engineering Manager (EM) to join our Power Delivery team.

As a Data Center Substation Engineering Manager, you will leverage extensive technical knowledge and experience in designing and constructing high‑voltage substation projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects and teams. You will partner with the Project Manager, support technical execution, and provide leadership across design, construction, and quality deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Partner with the PM on scope, schedule, budget, and client management while leading the technical execution of projects.
  • Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspects of projects.
  • Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
  • Support the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
  • Mentor and/or train project engineers, EITs or CADD/Designers.
  • Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per HDR’s Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Lead multiple projects concurrently with teams in different locations.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and technical leaders to enhance expertise and attend training/seminars.
  • Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations for industry conferences or other events.
  • Participate in project reviews as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with an engineering consulting firm.
  • Minimum 8 years of technical design experience with high‑voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV, including conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components and of IEEE, ANSI, NESC, and other applicable design and equipment standards.
  • Experience with substation design for 12 kV to 500 kV desired; experience through 765 kV an added benefit.
  • Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, departmental, technical managers and project staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Web Ex, Teams, etc.).
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (Examples: PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).
