Senior Civil Engineer

HDR’s Building Engineering Services (BES) team in the Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA office is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with proven experience in delivering projects from planning to construction. The role involves leading the site civil engineering design for facilities across multiple market segments and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

• Serve as Civil Engineer of Record (EOR), preparing specifications and construction plans.
• Lead small project teams of civil engineers and designers, providing technical expertise and oversight.
• Design and direct general civil engineering work: site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading, drainage, paving, utilities, and related activities.
• Prepare stormwater management designs, calculations, and reports to meet local agency standards.
• Oversee EIT and civil coordinator tasks such as Civil 3D production, engineering, and quantity calculations.
• Perform quality‑control design reviews on multidisciplinary projects from a civil perspective.
• Execute complex assignments, exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Serve as a technical expert in a specialty area to resolve problems beyond typical scope.
• Plan and develop projects or design activities that have a significant impact on major company programs.
• Plan, organize, and supervise the work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians.
• Occasionally act as Project Manager on small to mid‑sized projects as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Required:
• Minimum of 10 years design experience managing civil/site design projects.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location (PE or P.Eng).
• Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
• Commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
• Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• California Civil PE license.
• Mentoring and training experience with Civil EITs and civil designers.
• Experience with Auto Desk Civil 3D.
• Project Engineering and Project Civil Lead experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, WaterCAD, StormCAD, and related civil software;
  Bluebeam familiarity.
• Willingness to work with and lead project teams.
• Supervisory experience.
