An established engineering firm in Walnut Creek, CA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a major utility end-client. This critical role focuses on the planning, design, operation, maintenance, and reliability of natural gas regulator facilities and associated pipeline infrastructure.
The successful candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of natural gas through pressure regulation stations. This involves providing engineering support for capital projects, system improvements, integrity initiatives, and operational troubleshooting. You will collaborate closely with operations, construction, integrity management, gas control, and regulatory compliance teams to maintain and enhance critical gas delivery assets.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Facility Design- Develop detailed engineering designs
, specifications, and construction drawings for natural gas regulation, measurement, and odorization facilities. - Perform engineering calculations
, including flow capacity, pressure drop, valve sizing, stress analysis, and over pressure protection requirements. - Select and specify equipment such as regulators, control valves, relief valves, actuators, filters, and piping components.
- Review and approve Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, and structural layouts.
- Provide technical oversight for capital expenditure (Cap Ex) projects from conceptual design through final commissioning.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop scopes of work, cost estimates, material procurement lists, and project schedules.
- Support field construction teams by responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) and resolving field design changes.
- Troubleshoot operational issues at existing regulator stations and recommend corrective actions to optimize system reliability.
- Support integrity management programs by evaluating asset conditions, conducting risk assessments, and designing system hardening or replacement projects.
- Assist Gas Control and field operations during emergency response scenarios or unusual system flow conditions.
