Senior Auditor – Mechanics Bank

Mechanics Bank is seeking a Senior Auditor to conduct high‑quality audits of retail banking branches, loan centers, and other operational functions. The role is hybrid and based in Irvine, Roseville, or Walnut Creek, California.

Responsibilities
  • Provide critical review and assessment of the bank’s control environment, operational efficiency, and compliance with laws and regulations across retail bank branches, loan centers, and administrative departments.
  • Recommend audit scopes for specific functions, develop audit and analytical programs to demonstrate understanding of relevant risks and controls, and establish effective tests of controls.
  • Prepare high‑quality work paper documentation that evidences deficiencies in controls, fraud, or non‑compliance, in accordance with industry standards.
  • Coordinate and analyze the preparation of periodic reports on specific bank activities as scheduled by the Audit Manager and/or Audit Director.
  • Support the Audit Manager and/or Audit Director in annual risk assessments and audit scheduling.
  • Conduct focused investigative audit work to identify irregularities and develop controls for fraud prevention.
  • Deliver presentations to bank personnel on internal controls, audit findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist in training less experienced audit personnel in audit routines and fieldwork.
  • Support audit administrative duties as requested.
  • Travel: 0‑10% of the time.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 4‑year Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (alternatively, equivalent experience may be considered).
  • At least 5 years of relevant banking and/or audit experience, preferably combining both banking and audit of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of bank operational, compliance, and financial/accounting audit principles.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including spreadsheets and bank software systems; intermediate proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write routine reports, present findings to groups, and handle feedback diplomatically.
  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Experience working for a publicly traded company is desirable.
Certifications
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • Compliance, Risk, or Finance certifications such as CRCM, CAMS, CRMA, CFIRS, CFSA, or actively pursuing one of these.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $95,000–$125,000 annually. AIP/Bonus: up to 15%.

Final compensation package will be determined by work experience, education, skill level of the applicant, and internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
