This is a Fixed Term position
Department DutiesThe General Surgery NP/PA position is part of a collaborative team model of care consisting of pediatric general surgeons and advanced practice providers who provide care for patients with a wide range of pediatric surgical diagnoses. This position located in Walnut Creek, CA and requires credentialing at both LPCH and John Muir Medical Center. Outpatient care is conducted at the Stanford Children’s Health Clinic in Walnut Creek and inpatient care is conducted at John Muir Hospital.
This satellite practice provides an excellent opportunity to practice with a close knit group of community physicians as well as within the larger community of Stanford Children’s Health in a collaborative and supportive team practice. This is a fixed term position for 6 months.
General surgery patients range from premature infants to young adults. Common conditions seen include emergency, acute, and chronic surgical conditions, infant and congenital surgical conditions, colorectal and intestinal conditions, tumors, and vascular lesions and vascular associated syndromes. The general surgery department also has numerous specialty outpatient programs including aerodigestive and airway reconstruction center, adolescent bariatric surgery, chest wall program, colorectal and bowel management program, intestinal failure and short gut program, and pilonidal disease program.
This position offers the opportunity to be involved in the whole spectrum of surgical patient care from outpatient clinical evaluation, specialty clinic evaluation, and inpatient rounding and management of post/preoperative patients.
Outpatient responsibilities include staffing independent NP/PA clinics, assisting with surgeon clinics, assisting with patient advice and questions, family and device teaching, and case management. Inpatient responsibilities include collaborating with the physician team to round on general surgery inpatients, new patients consults, address calls from inpatient team members, and coordinating discharge needs.
Learning opportunities include weekly educations conferences, monthly APP Grand Rounds, and radiology and case conferences. Additional opportunities include involvement in the local and broader APP community at both Stanford Children’s Health and with national organizations.
The ideal candidate is a motivated and self‑directed practitioner with excellent communication skills, clear judgment, and extensive attention to detail. Previous general surgery experience is preferred but not required. RNFA or OR first assist experience preferred.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) positions are part of a collaborative team consisting of Attending Physicians, Fellows, and a team of advanced practice providers both NPs and PAs. The APP team is highly respected, we are seen as the go to team for the attendings. We actively participate in the education of fellows and visiting residents. Responsibilities for this role include: receiving sign-out from overnight team.
