ERM Field Biologist – Desert Tortoise

Location:

Barstow, Yucca Valley, Palm Springs, CA (full‑time, 40 hours per week, 6‑month duration, extendable)

Conduct protocol‑level desert tortoise surveys, collect data electronically with Field Maps and Survey
123, and report findings daily as part of a large team of biologists.

• Perform protocol‑level desert tortoise surveys
• Gather and enter data using Field Maps and Survey
  123 applications
• Provide daily reporting
• Carry out other duties as assigned or required

• BS degree in a natural science field (preferred)
• Minimum of 2 seasons of Desert Tortoise field biologist experience
• Minimum of three years of experience surveying, monitoring, and mitigating for target species; 1 year conducting presence/absence surveys for desert tortoise required
• Familiarity with desert tortoise survey protocols
• Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather and challenging terrain; walk ~5 km per day in desert conditions
• Working knowledge of sub‑meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (NWI, USGS, aerial photography)
• Strong attention to detail in documentation
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Availability for weekends and/or overtime
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed
• Demonstrated independent and effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Annual base pay $74,825–$96,901 (approximately $35.97–$46.58 per hour). Position is limited‑term, non‑exempt. Bonus pay may be available to full‑time employees; flex‑force employees are not bonus eligible.

Comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life & disability insurance, subject to eligibility: regular employees scheduled 20+ hours per week are fully eligible; flex‑force regular employees 20+ hours per week are eligible for a limited package; casual employees are not eligible.
