We have two part‑time openings for 3.75‑hour, 9.5‑month employees at various school sites. Work hours vary by site, Monday through Friday.
Basic FunctionUnder general supervision of the principal or designee, perform a variety of bilingual/bicultural instructional activities; support and help English Learner (EL) students improve their English skills; assist EL students with cultural acclimation; focus on academic as well as social‑emotional growth of the student; perform supportive tasks and follow‑up activities; serve as interpreter for community members with limited English; perform other related work as required.
Experienceand Education Requirement
- One year of paid or volunteer experience working with various age groups of children experiencing language deficiencies and remedial instruction needs is preferred.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, with coursework or training in child growth and development and bilingual/bicultural instructional processes.
- Assist instructional personnel with students experiencing bilingual/bicultural instructional needs.
- Assist classroom students and small group settings, focusing on language and social‑emotional growth.
- Serve as a translator and interpreter to facilitate communication with non‑English speaking family and school community members.
- Work in various instructional settings, including individual tutoring and small groups.
- Provide support to reinforce and follow up language development and learning activities.
- Manage student behavior through a variety of strategies and techniques, promoting positive social behaviors.
- Assist students who do not speak English to become independent in classes.
- Develop and assist in development of specialized instructional materials.
- Assist in development and maintenance of related student records and files.
- Administer and score criterion‑referenced tests, state and district‑mandated language proficiency tests, and general aptitude tests.
- Requisition, store, distribute and maintain an inventory of bilingual/bicultural educational materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist in development and maintenance of a learning environment appropriate to special instructional and language requirements of students.
- Use a second language and provide cultural experiences for students with bilingual/bicultural needs.
- Perform language census testing and record results.
- Participate in professional development opportunities offered by the department, school site, and District during work hours and work year.
- May participate in professional development opportunities outside work hours and work year.
- May assist in translation of quizzes, tests, and school‑to‑home flyers.
- May assist with translations in parent conferences.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Perform routine clerical tasks and operate various educational and office‑related machines and equipment.
- Communicate satisfactorily in oral and written form in English and a second language as required by assignment and serve as an appropriate language model.
- Skillfully handle difficult situations using good judgment.
- Prioritize and identify needs and solve problems independently as appropriate.
- Subject matter in areas of mathematics, writing, and reading as defined by District standards.
- Child development and behavioral characteristics, and cultural attitudes of children with bilingual/bicultural instructional needs.
- Behavior management strategies and techniques utilized with students experiencing bilingual/bicultural instructional problems.
- Basic mathematical concepts.
- Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures.
- Instructional strategies used with students involved with bilingual/bicultural instructional problems.
- Equity, access, and inclusion practices as it relates to program participants.
