Position:
Health Clerk at Castle Rock Elementary School. 2‑hour, 9.5‑month contract, working 12:15 pm‑2:15 pm, Monday‑Friday.
Under the direction of an assigned administrator and the technical oversight, direction and guidance of a nurse, perform a variety of duties pertained to student health; assist in the care of chronically or acutely ill, or injured students, administer routine first aid and initiate emergency treatment; perform general clerical functions in support of the school office; and do other related work as assigned.
- Comply with the Health Services Procedure manual including public health policies.
- Render first aid to injured and ill students and staff, contacting parents, administrators and nurses as appropriate.
- Provide a quiet, comfortable, calming atmosphere for ill and injured students.
- Assist in personal care and hygiene of students.
- Ensure medication compliance with the California Education Code, District policy, and prescription instructions, administering medications to students as prescribed.
- Secure medications in proper storage/containment areas.
- Observe students and staff to detect potential emergency situations and take appropriate action.
- Assist in preparing health assessments and reports on student health (physical, vision, hearing, scoliosis, immunizations, allergies).
- Collect and compile data concerning student health and assist in follow‑up activities.
- Communicate with parents regarding student health‑related issues.
- Provide clerical support to the school office as assigned.
- Record health appraisal results on health records.
- Assist with immunization compliance and maintain a health office log for student visits and medications.
- Assist nurse, students, and staff with specialized treatments, monitoring medical treatments, and testing.
- Stock work areas (sinks, counters, buckets, cots) to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Train students to assist in the health office while maintaining confidentiality of student records.
- Perform other duties related to the class as assigned.
- Operate standard office equipment including computer applications.
- Use correct English in writing and speaking, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Establish and maintain complex and sensitive files and records.
- Perform first aid and emergency treatment for ill and injured students.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and the public.
- Communicate effectively in writing and orally to staff, administrators, and parents.
- Basic first aid and CPR.
- Health care practices and procedures, including Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Basic symptoms of communicable and other childhood‑related diseases.
- Operation and appropriate use of health equipment and safety gear.
- Analyze situations and initiate effective action.
- Take appropriate action in health‑related emergency situations.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student health information and records.
- Work courteously and tactfully with co‑workers, public, pupils, and parents.
- Promote team building and a positive work environment.
- Multitask and adapt easily to new assignments, priorities, and procedures.
- Work without close monitoring and meet deadlines.
- Identify needs and solve problems independently.
- Suggest procedural improvements to the supervisor.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, prioritizing student needs.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form to staff, administrators, and parents.
- Keyboard at an acceptable rate of speed.
Two (2) years of experience performing a variety of health care practices and procedures is preferred. Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
License and Certificate Requirements- Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Valid California Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
Medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time and frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
