Massachusetts Connections Academy (MassCA) is a tuition‑free virtual public school district that employs more than 200 faculty and staff and serves approximately 3,000 students in grades K–12 across Massachusetts. Payroll Specialist

Location:

Walpole, Massachusetts (Hybrid – 2 days in‑person, 3 days remote)

Employment Type:

Salary: $70,000 to $80,000 per year

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare, process, and reconcile semi‑monthly payroll for more than 250 employees.
  • Process payroll efficiently using ADP and verify employee timesheets.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and the Business Office for payroll changes (new hires, terminations, leaves, benefit changes).
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records in the system.
  • Prepare and reconcile reports for retirement systems, employee benefits, payroll taxes, and other payroll‑related reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Perform year‑end payroll processing and reporting, including W‑2 and Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting.
  • Assist with Workers’ Compensation audits.
  • Maintain and update EPIMS information.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Support system implementations, process improvements, and workflow enhancements.
  • Provide ad‑hoc support to Human Resources and the Business Office with purchasing, invoice processing, special projects, and other administrative functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Manager.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible payroll processing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience processing payroll using ADP.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, accounting principles, payroll taxes, and reporting requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly, adapt to changing processes, and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to assist employees with payroll inquiries.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a public school district or municipality.
  • Experience with Tyler School ERP Pro and ADP.
  • Experience with retirement reporting, ACA compliance, and year‑end payroll processing.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
