The Science Teacher delivers daily science instruction in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks at TEC Academy – Phoenix Campus, serving students in grades 6–12 with emotional and behavioral challenges. The role focuses on developing students’ academic skills through a flexible, differentiated classroom environment.

E. Walpole, MA. TEC Academy is a DESE‑approved public day school for students with academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges, offering a small, structured educational setting.
- Assess students’ skills to determine learning needs.
- Plan engaging lessons with clear, measurable objectives that align with curriculum standards and are adapted to meet student needs.
- Organize and assign activities tailored to individual student abilities.
- Teach and mentor students in whole‑class, small‑group, and one‑on‑one settings.
- Implement IEPs, assess performance, and track progress.
- Discuss student progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Supervise teacher assistants working with students with disabilities.
- Prepare students for grade transitions and post‑graduation.
- Maintain ongoing communication with colleagues and district representatives to improve outcomes.
- Collaborate on IEP planning notes and progress reports.
- Maintain updated student records, including IEPs, professional reports, and required data, in compliance with regulations.
- Participate in staff and professional development meetings, conferences, and teacher training (e.g., Safety Care).
- Integrate technology into instruction and for personal productivity.
- Strong instructional pedagogy.
- Experience working with students with social, emotional, behavioral needs, and/or trauma history.
- Commitment to creating a welcoming, safe, supportive, and appropriately challenging environment.
- Excellent communication and judgment/decision‑making skills.
- Proactive thinking and flexibility in responding to unexpected situations.
- Calm and supportive demeanor with students.
- Strong relationship‑building with students, families, and community members.
- Team‑work collaboration.
- Technological proficiency for reporting and electronic communication.
- Ability to work under time restraints and meet deadlines.
- Confidentiality maintenance.
- BA degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred).
- Massachusetts teacher licensure in a science field, grades 8–12.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Physical requirements:
ability to speak clearly, read printed documents, frequent standing/walking/sitting, reaching, and assimilate up to 30 lbs.
