The TEC Special Education Classroom Aide/Paraprofessional/CNA supports the special education teacher in meeting the diverse needs of students with a range of disabilities. The role involves classroom modifications, personal care of students, communication with staff, providing structure and feedback, and other duties as assigned.
Our OrganizationThe Education Cooperative (TEC) is an educational collaborative and 501(c)(3) non‑profit located in
E. Walpole, MA that develops programs for 19 member communities. TEC runs three DESE approved public special education day schools, including the TEC Campus School, set on an 8‑acre campus. The campus offers a small, caring environment for students aged 3 to 21, providing multi‑sensory instruction across academics, therapy, and life skills.
- Interact with students ages 3‑22 individually and in small groups under the supervising teacher’s direction.
- Work in special or general educational settings, reviewing and reinforcing lessons and implementing individualized programs (IEP).
- Understand instructional needs of students with disabilities and assist in modifying instruction.
- Escort and assist students with lifting, toileting, feeding via g‑tube, ADLs, and behavior management after proper training (Safety Care).
- Assist in administering tests and evaluating student progress.
- Correct day‑to‑day class work (no grading responsibility).
- Carry out teacher‑planned learning exercises, including core curriculum instruction and support of related therapies such as speech, occupational, physical, music, and adaptive physical education.
- Fulfill transition and job‑coaching needs where applicable.
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Participate in staff development, including restraint training, ABA training, and additional in‑service programs.
- Establish effective working relationships with teachers, specialists, administration, and parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or supervising teacher.
- Demonstrate promptness and dependability in all assigned duties per TEC Personnel Policies.
- Maintain consistent attendance throughout the day.
- Travel between program classrooms when necessary.
Summer
Salary$21.55 to $34.70 per hour
Job Requirements- High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred).
- CNA License (if applicable).
- Valid driver’s license.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Interest and/or experience working with students identified with a variety of special education needs.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administration.
- Cooperates well with colleagues.
- Demonstrates effective oral and communication skills.
- Handles stressful situations calmly and professionally.
Work takes place in classrooms, offices, and occasionally community settings; primarily indoors.
Physical Requirements- Speak in a voice that can be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone.
- Have adequate vision to read printed documents and view computer screens.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lb.
- Hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.
