SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT (SLPA)

School - Day, Walpole, MA, US

Salary Range: $26.00 To $30.00 Hourly

League School for Autism is an award-winning, year-round program dedicated to the education of children on the Autism Spectrum. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community.
We are currently seeking a full-time SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT for our program in Walpole. Hourly pay range is $26 - $30.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology and/or related fields.
  • Licensure for Speech-Language Pathology Assistant from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is required.
  • Experience working with Autistic individuals and knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication systems preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, Safety Care (training provided)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must pass CORI background check.

Duties and Responsibilities
include the following:

1. Performs in a professional manner at all times in all aspects of work; including developing a therapeutic and effective relationship with students, using appropriate tone of voice, setting reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc.

2. Provides direct push‑in speech and language services with individual students or small groups within their assigned classrooms under the direction of the supervising SLP and consistent with student and classroom needs.

3. Leads residential floors to get students ready for school in the morning.

a. Works in cooperation with the overnight staff and overnight supervisors.

b. In coordination with administration, supports the morning residential schedule.

c. Trains new staff on student schedules, morning routines, and support plans.

d. Gives feedback to staff with the support of their supervisor.

e. Supports floors as needed to cover vacancies.

4. Under the supervision of the assigned SLP, provides direct service to designated students on caseload within the residential setting and attend residential meetings as deemed necessary by the supervising SLP.

5. Consults with respective supervising SLP and educational team regarding goals and objectives for the IEP writing process.

6. Collects and records data regarding student performance on speech and language goals without independent interpretation. SLPA will be required to monitor student progress, collaborate with classroom head teacher, and report information to respective supervising SLP.

7. Under the supervision of the assigned SLP, performs programming/maintenance duties related to individualized AAC systems, including low-, mid-, and high‑tech systems.

8. Supports SCERTS implementation and recommendations across the program.

9. Consults with the head teacher and classroom team around programming including developing curricula and/or group lessons as they relate to speech and language needs, as they impact the student and the classroom.

10. Develops lesson plans and materials, as needed for the implementation of communication programs/social programs, classroom lessons, etc.

11. Prepares curriculum materials that are appropriate for students and/or classroom on the caseload and presents to supervising SLP for review.

12. Participates in formal parent conferences or interdisciplinary team meetings.

13. SLPA will co‑sign any required documents alongside the respective supervisor (e.g., Medicaid).

14. Attends classroom meetings, program meetings, staff meetings, and department meetings. Comes prepared with an agenda and/or ready to discuss issues and solutions.

15. Provides input into the development of student support plans, academic goals, and daily living techniques for individual students based on the student’s language capabilities.

16. Monitors students during the arrival and departure transitions to and from cabs, vans and buses when not supporting students at the residence.

17. Participates in all League School trainings.

18. Performs other related duties, as assigned by the SLP Department, Senior SLP, and/or Directors of Education, which are deemed necessary for the operation of the school.
