Position: Mental Health Worker I

Mental Health Worker I (260004JC)

Location:

Walpole, MA, 150 Pemberton Road.

Schedule:

Full‑time, 40 hours/week;
Third Shift 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.;
Days off Week 1 Sunday/Friday, Week 2 Friday/Saturday.

Position:
Residential program within the Department of Mental Health Community Transition Program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care services by supervising and instructing activities of daily living, including personal care, community integration, and recreation/leisure to meet clients’ daily, rehabilitation, and human‑rights needs.
  • Assist in developing client Individual Assessment Plans (IAPs) and complete progress notes and related documentation.
  • Supervise and/or assist clients with self‑medication, following specific instructions from licensed medical personnel and Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies to ensure proper medication maintenance.
  • Maintain daily reports, verbal and written inter‑shift communication, and periodic reviews to provide updated information on client rehabilitation progress.
  • Assist in crisis intervention by identifying situations, providing necessary interventions, notifying appropriate personnel, and documenting per established procedures to ensure human‑rights and safety standards.
  • Provide MAP services, CPR, and First Aid in accordance with required certifications and training.
  • Act as a professional role model by interacting with clients and staff respectfully, positively, clearly, and consistently to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
  • Help develop clients’ social, recreational, and employment skills as part of an interdisciplinary team, implementing rehabilitation goals and related activities.
  • Develop Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), provide nutritional assistance, and support independent community living; instruct clients in menu planning, shopping, meal preparation, hygiene, and health routines.
  • Assist in the general cleaning of the residence and grounds; demonstrate, model, and perform household tasks to maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Aid clients in scheduling, monitoring, and attending day rehabilitation and other appointments, providing guidance, documentation, transportation, and accompaniment as needed.
  • Attend ongoing related training and development as scheduled.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Capacity to perform basic mathematics.
  • Proven ability to gather information through observation and questioning.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to develop ideas in logical sequence.
  • Skilled at interacting with individuals under emotional stress, maintaining calm in stressful or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse, or homelessness.
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency.
  • Experience in psychiatric and acute care settings.
Other Requirements

Must possess a current and valid motor‑vehicle driver’s license at the class level specific to assignment.

Must obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) certifications.

MAP certification required within six months of entering the position or within three examination opportunities, whichever comes first; certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Salary

$47,798.66 – $60,444.28 annually.
