Position: Controller
Location: Waltham, MA
Salary: $135,000 - $165,000
Schedule: 4 days/week in office
- The Company: A well-established professional services organization with a collaborative culture, long-tenured employees, and a strong reputation in its industry.
- The Transition: The current Controller is retiring after more than 20 years with the organization. The incoming Controller will receive approximately five months of cross-training and knowledge transfer to support a smooth succession.
- The Opportunity: Reporting directly to the CFO/Co-Founder, the Controller will lead all accounting and financial operations, oversee a small accounting team, and serve as a strategic business partner to leadership. This role offers a blend of hands-on accounting ownership and high-level financial planning responsibilities.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and reporting packages.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Oversee billing, collections, accounts payable, payroll, and expense management.
- Monitor project profitability, revenue recognition, and job costing activities.
- Develop KPIs, financial dashboards, and management reporting for leadership.
- Coordinate external audits, tax preparation, and compliance activities.
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes.
- Administer Net Suite and support reporting and process automation initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while partnering with leaders across the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and audit coordination.
- Background in project-based, agency, consulting, or professional services environments preferred.
- Previous leadership experience managing accounting staff.
- Advanced Excel and Net Suite experience required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
