Our work includes complex, project-based installations as well as ongoing service and recurring revenue operations. As part of Cobalt Service Partners, Galaxy combines the resources of a larger organization with the hands-on, fast-paced environment of a growing operating company.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Waltham, MA. This role will be an integral part of Galaxy's accounting operations and monthly close process, with exposure to project accounting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, inventory, service operations, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a strong general ledger accountant who can independently manage assigned areas of the close, investigate discrepancies, and understand the underlying business activity behind the numbers.

Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Close
  • Take ownership of assigned areas of the monthly close process, including preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and other adjusting entries
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, including bank reconciliation
  • Review monthly corporate credit card activity for appropriate supporting documentation and proper general ledger account classification
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies and unusual transactions
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready supporting documentation
  • Support the company's accelerated monthly close timeline
Accounting Operations & Analysis
  • Proactively identify accounting discrepancies, unusual activity, and potential process or control issues, research the underlying cause, and bring significant findings and recommended solutions to management's attention
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the company's short-term cash forecast
  • Analyze monthly financial results and account activity, research significant or unexpected variances, and communicate findings to management
  • Prepare and post recurring journal entries throughout the month, ensuring transactions are recorded timely and classified appropriately
  • Support management with special projects, financial analysis, and other ad-hoc accounting needs as they arise
  • Assist Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable with day-to-day activities, including AR collections, on an as-needed-basis
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
    , preferably in corporate accounting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close
  • Strong balance sheet reconciliation skills
  • Experience preparing and analyzing journal entries
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups, SUMIFS, pivot tables, and working with large data sets
  • Ability to independently research discrepancies and follow transactions through the general ledger
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to accuracy and data integrity
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Computer Ease or similar construction/project accounting ERP systems a plus, but not required
