Job Description Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Success serves as the department's lead administrator for NCAA compliance, student‑athlete academic success, eligibility certification, and admissions coordination. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring systems that support institutional control and ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations. The Assistant Athletic Director provides leadership for academic services and student‑athlete support initiatives that promote retention, persistence, graduation, and overall student success.
The position serves as a key liaison among Athletics, Admissions, Academic Services, the Registrar's Office, faculty, and campus partners while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and student‑athlete well‑being. This position may also provide sport administration oversight as assigned, including compliance support related to the institution's NCAA ice hockey program.
Serve as the department's primary compliance administrator and oversee all aspects of NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance. Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously enhance compliance monitoring systems and procedures to support institutional control. Interpret NCAA, conference, and institutional legislation and provide timely guidance to coaches, staff, student‑athletes, boosters, and campus constituents. Oversee monitoring activities related to recruiting, eligibility, amateurism, financial aid, awards and benefits, playing and practice seasons, camps and clinics, and personnel issues.
Coordinate student‑athlete eligibility certification and continuing eligibility processes. Investigate potential NCAA, conference, and institutional violations and prepare reports and corrective action plans as necessary. Develop and deliver comprehensive rules education programming for coaches, staff, student‑athletes, and campus stakeholders. Maintain accurate compliance records and ensure timely submission of all NCAA and conference reports. Coordinate institutional reviews, audits, NCAA self‑studies, conference reporting requirements, and compliance assessments.
Collaborate with athletics leadership to identify compliance risks and implement proactive strategies to mitigate those risks. Serve as the compliance liaison for the institution's NCAA ice hockey program, monitoring recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, and sport‑specific legislative requirements.
Provide strategic leadership for student‑athlete academic support services and success initiatives. Monitor academic progress, retention, eligibility, and graduation outcomes for all student‑athletes. Coordinate programs designed to support academic achievement, including study hall, tutoring, academic mentoring, and progress reporting. Serve as a liaison with Academic Services, faculty, department chairs, the Registrar's Office, and other campus partners. Assist student‑athletes with academic planning, course registration, degree progress, and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
Monitor degree completion and progress‑toward‑degree requirements utilizing institutional systems and reporting tools. Identify academically at‑risk student‑athletes and develop intervention strategies in collaboration with campus partners. Support initiatives that promote student‑athlete engagement, leadership development, career readiness, and overall well‑being. Work closely with the Faculty Athletics Representative on academic matters and NCAA eligibility certification.
