Lead Summer Mentor / Tutor Counselor

The Lead Summer Mentor / Tutor Counselor provides supervision and coordination for Upward Bound summer tutor mentors and supports daily program operations. This role focuses on mentor leadership, communication, and program implementation to ensure a safe, organized, and engaging summer experience for participating high school students.

The hourly pay rate is $20.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in staff orientation. Full participation is a condition of employment.
• Supervise Upward Bound tutor mentors during daily summer programming.
• Conduct regular check-ins and weekly meetings with tutor mentors.
• Provide guidance, coordination, and support to undergraduate mentor staff.
• Monitor mentor attendance, engagement, and responsibilities.
• Support planning and onsite supervision of field trips, workshops, and special events.
• Assist with program setup, transitions, and daily operations as needed.
• Communicate regularly with Upward Bound staff and administrative leadership.
• Enforce Upward Bound expectations, policies, and safety procedures.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned by Upward Bound leadership.

Qualifications:

• Upper class college students or graduate students preferred.
• Experience working with high school students in tutoring, mentoring, or youth programs.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to supervise and support a group of college student mentors.
• Commitment to supporting low-income and first-generation students.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced summer program environment.
• Familiarity with Upward Bound and/or TRIO programs is a plus.
