Position: Associate Director, Internships & Outreach (PT)

Brandeis University is seeking an Associate Director for Internships and Outreach to play a key role in growing the Brandeis Journalism Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Expand and oversee the internship program for journalism minors, mapping out outreach strategies and forging partnerships with regional media organizations to create pathways for experiential learning.
  • Develop strong relationships with nonprofit digital newsrooms in the region, creating more experiential learning opportunities for Brandeis students.
  • Serve as the program’s main point of contact for the student leadership team, organizing monthly meetings and advising students on personalized internship strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to deepen, expand, and oversee community connections off campus, particularly through academic-news partnerships.
  • Help design courses that provide experiential learning within the journalism curriculum via partnerships with nonprofit news outlets.
  • Lead outreach efforts to attract more students to the Brandeis Journalism Program and reengage alumni working in media.
  • Establish and lead initiatives such as student shadowing programs and alumni advisory councils.
  • Assist the Program Director with reimagining journalism education, including developing social media strategy and co‑moderating campus forums with media leaders.
  • Work with the Special Events and Grants Manager on key grant initiatives.
Job Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience:

    5–8 years of relevant work experience in nonprofit news or related fields.
  • Entrepreneurial and organizational/programmatic skills.
  • Experience working directly with students and leadership experience in the nonprofit news startup landscape.
  • Leadership skills to build operations from scratch.
  • Fundraising and ambassadorial abilities to represent the program and build alliances.
Pay

Hourly rate: $48.24 – $52.36 per hour. The final hire determination will take into account scope of responsibilities, experience, and other factors.
