Assistant Superintendent of CTE K-12

The purpose of this position is to have an individual responsible for supervising and implementing the provisions of Career Technical Education programs, innovation pathways at the high school level as well as the college and career programming in the Waltham Public Schools in accordance with State and Federal regulations and mandates. Working in partnership with the educational leaders of the Waltham Schools, the Assistant Superintendent assures that the curriculum and instruction meets the educational and developmental needs of the students and staff and is in alignment with DESE CTE program guidelines.

  • Supervises and implements instructional programs in accordance with school, district federal and state initiatives.
  • Supervises and coordinates programs for students in compliance with statutes and regulations.
  • Supervises and evaluates the Director of CTE
  • Implements and monitors system-wide initiatives in career and technical education.
  • Prepares all state and federal reports in career and technical education.
  • Assures the continuity and sequential order of curriculum.
  • Supports the application and implementation of innovative pathways programming
  • Measures student achievement in vocational and technical education and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in identifying CTE opportunities throughout K-12 programming
  • Oversight of future after dark CTE programming
  • Supports the identification and ordering of appropriate instructional materials and equipment for classrooms and shops.
  • Provides guidance and support to high school academic counselors for college and career readiness
  • Remains up to date with DESE graduation requirements and college and career readiness programming
  • Supports the Counselor of Early College in support of early college planning and partnerships with local universities.
  • Oversees and submits a budget for the department.
  • Assists WHS Principal and Director of CTE in hiring, supervising and evaluating all relevant Career and Technical Education.
  • Communicates the practices of the Career and Technical Education Department to parents, administrators, staff, and the public.
  • Demonstrates professional growth and self-improvement.
  • Develops positive school-community relations.
  • Exhibits and facilitates human relations and communication skills.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with staff, administrators, students and parents.

  • Performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Qualifications

    Education, Training and Experience

    • A Master's Degree in Education or in content area
    • Valid Massachusetts State Certification as Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent and/or as Director of Vocational Programs.
    • At least five (5) years experience in the field of public education, including experience in administration and teaching.
    Knowledge Required
    • Thorough knowledge of State Curriculum Frameworks as related to Career and Technology/Engineering Education.
    • Work collaboratively to review/revise CTE courses that align with current state standards.
    • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of, and experience with effective presentation strategies.
    • Thorough knowledge of Chapter 74 programming, Perkins grants and other grant programs related to CTE and college and career readiness
    • Communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse groups and audiences.
    • Understand DESE graduation requirements, specifically Mass Core
    • Promote flexibility and resiliency through thinking critically and creatively.
    • Understand and guide practice in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and compliance requirements governing college and career programs in Massachusetts.
