Job Summary
Preconstruction Engineer with 1-5 years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets.
Responsibilities- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Have knowledge and understanding of unit costs and factors affecting construction cost.
- Participate in RFP responses and formal presentation for a project.
- Contact suppliers and vendors to discuss various requests and due dates.
- Handle subcontractor requests efficiently.
- Prepare and distribute time-sensitive materials.
- Coordinate activities of the team from bid to proposal.
- Provide consistent customer service experience with subs and vendors.
- Track and update vendor information and manage local vendor database.
- Prepare detailed estimate updates as design evolves, including variance summaries between estimates.
- Write and negotiate subcontracts.
- Actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with the project team and design team.
- Participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer or owner.
- Develop business with new and existing customers.
- 1-5 years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably within DPR’s Core Market projects.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
- Computer competency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
Prolog preferred. - Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Estimating software (Timberline or similar), Project Management software (Prolog or similar), and Scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- Excellent listening and strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both as a team player and independently.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Effective participation in team environment.
- A strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
Preferred Experience
- Experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation.
- Will be prepared to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer or owner.
