About Madrigal:
Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.

Role Overview:
Senior Manager, Tax
Madrigal Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Manager, Tax to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in overseeing and managing all aspects of the company’s corporate tax compliance, planning, and reporting functions. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, optimize tax strategies, and support the company’s growth initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance & Reporting:

  • Manage and oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and international tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax-related documents, including estimated payments, extensions, and annual returns.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740, including effective tax rate analysis and uncertain tax positions.
  • Manage indirect tax compliance, including sales/use tax and other transactional taxes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Tax Planning & Strategy:

  • Evaluate the tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Tax and external advisors to develop and execute global tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and support business objectives.
  • Audit &

    Risk Management:

  • Manage federal, state, and local tax audits, including preparation of audit documentation and communication with tax authorities.
  • Develop and maintain processes to ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations.
  • Assess and mitigate tax risks by implementing and maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and legal teams to ensure alignment of tax strategies with broader organizational goals.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on corporate tax matters, providing guidance to stakeholders across the company.
  • Qualifications and

    Skills Required:

  • Self-motivated, independent thinker with a proven ability to develop high-quality, impactful content for national conferences.
  • Proven ability to support multiple marketing initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to translate clinical data into clear and effective marketing communications.
  • Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of corporate tax experience, with a mix of public accounting and corporate tax roles.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international tax regulations.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740 and tax accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to manage complex tax compliance and reporting processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset.
  • Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems; experience with Net Suite is advantageous.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires limited travel, with up to 20% for team meetings or key business engagements.
  • Compensation:
    Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
