Senior Accountant (Hybrid)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the financial integrity and operational excellence of a mission-driven organization serving a large and diverse community. In this highly visible role, you will help ensure accurate financial reporting, support key close processes, maintain strong internal controls, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization.

This position follows a hybrid schedule
, working on-site Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays
.

Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Financial Oversight
  • Support the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records
  • Lead key components of month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and review journal entries and supporting schedules
  • Perform detailed balance sheet and subledger reconciliations
  • Analyze account activity, identify variances, and prepare correcting entries as needed
  • Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and internal controls
  • Support accounting across multiple funding sources, including government contracts, grants, private pay, and philanthropic funding
Financial Reporting, Audit Support & Compliance
  • Partner with the Controller and Finance team to support timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
  • Assist with audit requests related to government funding and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation
  • Help ensure compliance with accounting policies and federal/state regulations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with program and administrative teams to ensure accurate coding and expense allocation
  • Support alignment of financial activity with program-specific funding requirements
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on accounting processes and financial reporting
  • Help improve financial literacy across departments through responsive support and communication
Continuous Improvement & Special Projects
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analysis
  • Support enhancements to accounting systems, reporting tools, and workflows
  • Help improve processes related to grant accounting, restricted revenue tracking, audit preparation, and close cycles
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance data quality
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting or a similarly complex multi-fund environment strongly preferred
  • Experience with Sage Intacct is a plus
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and SUMIFS
  • Strong ERP system experience with the ability to extract and analyze financial data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
