Job summary
The Support Coordinator – Deaf Services plays a critical role in supporting Deaf, Deaf Blind, and Hard of Hearing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position ensures that each person receives culturally and linguistically accessible services, meaningful community engagement opportunities, and individualized supports that promote independence, dignity, and personal growth.
The Support Coordinator provides leadership to program staff, promotes best practices in Deaf culture and communication access, collaborates with families and support teams, and ensures consistency with ISP objectives and WCI’s mission.
Essential Functions- Responsible for daily oversight of assigned home/apartments.
- Develop, monitor, and implement ISPs including assessments, goals, strategies, data, and progress reports.
- Select, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff with input from individuals supported.
- Advocate for individuals’ rights and WCI’s mission by promoting dignity, respect, relationships, and community involvement.
- Oversee staffing schedules and ensure coverage meets approved ratios.
- Conduct on-site orientation and training for new hires and relief staff.
- Ensure staff maintain current certifications (CPR, First Aid, MAP, PABC as required).
- Schedule and attend healthcare appointments; oversee medication management and MAP compliance.
- Review and approve staff timecards within budget parameters.
- Manage household stipend, support individuals with money management, and ensure compliance with WCI policies.
- Prepare agendas for supervision, staff, and house meetings; conduct documented monthly supervision.
- Complete annual performance appraisals with feedback from individuals supported.
- Train staff in health care plans and emergency procedures; ensure fire drills and safety plans are completed.
- Maintain a clean, home-like environment through supervision and staff compliance.
- Communicate with day programs, DDS, family members, guardians, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Implement behavior plans and physical interventions as trained and appropriate.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Supports or Division Head.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture, communication accessibility, and language‑equity practices
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) with two years of experience supporting individuals with /DD,
or high school diploma/equivalent with four years of relevant experience - Experience supporting individuals with behavioral, emotional, or complex communication needs preferred
- Strong written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and adapt to changing support needs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) certification or ability to pass PABC training to obtain certification.
- Experience using multiple systems (e.g., Log Notes, Staff Communication, Data Collection, Progress Notes, Confidential, Medical, and ISP Records, Health Care and Financial Reporting System).
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods throughout the day, including stairs. Must be able to physically complete the evacuation plan while supporting Individuals.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs (e.g., files, supplies, groceries)
- Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting with transfers, repositioning individuals, crisis prevention, pushing individuals in wheelchairs, using Hoyer lifts)
- Ability to provide hands‑on support for personal care as needed per individual support plans (e.g., showering, toileting, assistance with eating)
- Ability to perform basic household tasks related to program operations (e.g., meal preparation, laundry, routine household cleaning, snow shoveling)
- Ability to operate or ride in a vehicle; driving is a requirement for most positions and includes driving agency vans, including wheelchair vans, or personal vehicles
- Ability to secure wheelchairs and assistive devices as needed
