Job Summary
The Assistant Support Coordinator provides leadership and direct support in residential settings for Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will ensure person-centered planning, supervise staff, and promote independence and community inclusion in linguistically and culturally accessible environments using American Sign Language (ASL).
Essential Functions- Serve as Site Supervisor in the Support Coordinator’s absence.
- Collaborate to develop, monitor, and implement ISPs (assessments, goals, strategies, data, and progress reports).
- Provide on-site orientation; train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
- Advocate for individuals’ rights and WCI’s mission: dignity, respect, relationships, and community involvement.
- Maintain a safe, clean, home-like environment that is visually accessible (e.g., visual alarms, lighting).
- Prepare agendas and lead supervision/house meetings; conduct documented staff supervision monthly.
- Train staff in health care plans and medication administration (MAP); ensure adherence to DPH/DDS policies.
- Teach individuals personal care, homemaking, money management, meal preparation, shopping, and community skills.
- Act as an advocate for 1–2 individuals; write progress reports as assigned.
- Conduct fire drills; train staff and individuals in emergency procedures and safety plans.
- Coordinate with employment/day sites on schedules, transportation, and appointments; maintain weekly contact as assigned.
- Implement behavior plans and physical interventions as trained and appropriate.
- Ensure completion of all required documentation accurately and on time.
- Train staff in WCI vehicle use; assist with vehicle logs and maintenance.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods throughout the day, including stairs. Must be able to physically complete the evacuation plan while supporting Individuals.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs (e.g., files, supplies, groceries)
- Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting with transfers, repositioning individuals, crisis prevention, pushing individuals in wheelchairs, using Hoyer lifts)
- Ability to provide hands-on support for personal care as needed per individual support plans (e.g., showering, toileting, assistance with eating)
- Ability to perform basic household tasks related to program operations (e.g., meal preparation, laundry, routine household cleaning, snow shoveling)
- Ability to operate or ride in a vehicle; driving is a requirement for most positions and includes driving agency vans, including wheelchair vans, or personal vehicles
- Ability to secure wheelchairs and assistive devices as needed
- Fluent ASL communication required; experience with Deaf culture and Deaf Blind communication preferred.
- Associate degree preferred; high school diploma/equivalent required.
- One year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- MAP certification within six months of hire (if not already certified); PABC and other site-specific certifications as required.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
