Responsible for performing advanced tasks in the sterile processing department within a healthcare facility.
Patient Care RequirementNo
Essential Functions- Receive and process used medical instruments and equipment from operating rooms and other departments.
- Load instruments and equipment into sterilizers, adhering to prescribed loading patterns and protocols.
- Perform regular quality checks to ensure instruments, equipment, and packaging materials comply with sterilization standards.
- Manage inventory levels, including receiving, inspecting, and restocking sterile supplies.
- Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot sterilization equipment and instruments.
- Provide guidance and training to less experienced sterile processing technicians.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
Licenses and CredentialsCertified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
ExperienceExperience as a Central Sterile Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting. 1-2 years required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of sterile processing principles, practices, and infection control standards.
- Familiarity with medical instruments, equipment, and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in instrument assembly, packaging, and sterilization techniques.
- Understanding of sterilization equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
