IT Category Manager

Overview

The Fountain Group, a national staffing firm, is seeking an IT Category Manager for a prominent client. This position is fully remote
.

• Pay: $70 – 82/hr
• 1-year assignment with possibility of extension based on performance and budget
• Remote-flexible role, teams are based in Boston and Miramar
  , with optional in-office presence
• You will be supporting the Software Category Program within the client’s Technology portfolio, focusing on Software, Cloud Infrastructure, and AI subcategories

• You will work directly with technology and product stakeholders to define category strategies for software renewals and align contract decisions with broader business and capability strategies.
• You will lead conversations around business rationale
  , including defining business requirements, evaluating third-party solutions, and establishing success metrics.
• You will be partnering closely with Product Teams, senior leadership, procurement, finance, risk, and sourcing teams to align demand, strategy, and outcomes.
• You will focus on category strategy over execution
  ; sourcing teams will manage RFPs and negotiations, with category approval and strategic guidance provided by you.
• You will identify opportunities to optimize software spend
  , improve asset utilization, enhance vendor performance, and support scalable digital solutions.
• You will contribute to or help improve the Software Asset Management (SAM) framework, including platform selection, process design, and strategic adoption.

• Bachelor’s degree required
  , advanced degree (MBA, PhD, etc.) is welcomed
• 5+ years of IT Category Management or Procurement experience
  , with emphasis on software, SaaS, cloud infrastructure, and/or AI
• Strong experience developing category strategies, supplier management plans, and supporting deliverables
• Enterprise environment experience required
• Prior sourcing experience preferred to provide context for strategic decision-making
• Experience building or improving a Software Asset Management (SAM) framework is a strong plus
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders
• Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, largely autonomous environment
