Job Summary
Brandeis University is seeking an Associate Network Engineer to support the IT department’s network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability for academic, research, and administrative operations.
Responsibilities- Assist in troubleshooting routers, switches, VMware, servers, wireless, and firewalls; resolve operational problems escalated beyond help desk support.
- Monitor network and system performance; prepare and maintain documentation, guides, inventory lists, and warranty information.
- Configure automatic backups for all networking equipment and configurations.
- Support deployment and maintenance of local and remote data centers; upgrade firmware on network equipment to mitigate security risks.
- Help design network maintenance and expansion plans; conduct network reviews, evaluate current state, and provide improvement feedback.
- Act as on‑site technical point of contact for network components requiring vendor participation (voice, data, security, energy management, retail point‑of‑sales, etc.).
- Represent ITS network interests in capital projects and non‑ITS projects; provide technical specifications.
- Provide periodic status reports on projects and system conditions to ITS Management.
- B.S. in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent) with 1–3 years of enterprise/data‑center networking experience; A.S. with 3–5 years; or HS/GED with 5–7 years.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and the OSI model.
- Familiarity with enterprise‑grade networking hardware (Arista, Aruba, Cisco, etc.).
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and time‑management skills.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently or collaboratively; eager to learn and explore new projects.
Competitive salary: $75–84.4k. Brandeis University offers a good‑faith estimate of pay that is based on scope, experience, and legal requirements.
