Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Scientist to join our Early Development team. This individual will be tasked with the design, execution, and analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS)-based workflows to drive early development of our cancer screening test portfolio. This role will include novel immunoassay development, NGS optimization and troubleshooting, and analyte and reagent characterization. In addition, this role will contribute to Mercy's IP portfolio through innovative and creative thinking and experimentation.
This mission critical role is ideal for an expert in assay design, validation, and troubleshooting, with a deep understanding of NGS method development and a proven track record of developing high-performance NGS-based assays for research or clinical use. Candidates for this position must enjoy working for a fast-paced, innovative company, be able to work in a highly collaborative and teamwork-oriented environment and exhibit a passion for being a part of our life-saving mission.
Responsibilities:
* Lead the development of novel NGS-based immunoassays to support R&D activities. Independently design and execute wet lab experiments to support method optimization, analytical characterization, and workflow standardization
* Build analysis pipelines to streamline NGS data cleanup, QC, and interpretation
* Deploy NGS-based immunoassays to support biomarker discovery efforts and analyte characterization
* Operate and maintain sequencing equipment and contribute to workflow automation efforts
* Drive research projects from planning to execution; generate experimental plans, milestones, and timelines
* Collaborate across R&D teams to support ongoing clinical programs
* Prepare protocols, reports, and SOPs; ensure documentation aligns with QMS requirements
* Liaise with CROs and collaborators to manage external projects
* Present findings internally and at scientific meetings; contribute to publications
Requirements:
* Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years of industry or academic high throughput facility (core) experience (or M.S. with 6+ years)
* Minimum 2+ years of laboratory experience in assay or product development in a biotech or pharma setting is preferred
* Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques including NGS library preparation, nucleic acid amplification and purification, DNA characterization and quantification, and qPCR is required
* Must have direct laboratory experience with one or more NGS short-read technology platforms, including corresponding sample preparation techniques, operation/troubleshooting of equipment, and management of sequencer data
* Proficiency with bioinformatics tools to analyze, visualize, and interpret NGS data is required
* Experience with one or more immunoassay techniques including western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry, etc. is preferred
* Experience with automated liquid handling platforms is preferred
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are required, with a demonstrated track record of novel NGS-based method development. Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Prism, JMP, R, Python) is required
* Excellent attention to detail and thorough documentation of experimental procedures and results is essential. Familiarity with electronic lab notebook (ELN) or laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is required. A strong publication track record and experience writing technical documentation is strongly preferred
* Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across internal and external teams is essential
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
