The Company
We are Alloy Therapeutics— a biotechnology ecosystem company empowering the global scientific community to make better medicines together. Through a community of partners, we democratize access to pre-competitive tools, technologies, services, and company creation capabilities that are foundational for discovering and developing therapeutic biologics. The company facilitates affordable, non-exclusive access to the entire drug discovery community from academic scientists, small and medium biotech, to the largest biopharma.
At Alloy, we believe our industry should compete on getting the best drugs to patients as quickly as possible, not exclusive access to the best platforms. As a reflection of our relentless commitment to the scientific community, we reinvest 100% of our revenue in innovation and access to innovation. MAY THE BEST DRUG WIN. Alloy is headquartered in Waltham, MA with additional labs in Cambridge, UK;
Basel, Switzerland, and Athens, GA. Successful members thrive in our shared culture of accountability, deliberate trust, and open communication. As a team we aspire to work together to exceed expectations and collectively contribute across the global organization to always maintain our nimble, startup culture.
The Alloy Genetic Medicines group is innovating a novel RNA-based drug discovery platform, namely “Anti Clastic”, spanning the fields of antisense therapeutics to immunomodulating therapeutics. The team works closely with external partners to discover and develop Anti Clastic RNA medicines.
The RoleAs a Research Associate / Associate Scientist, you will work within the Genetic Medicine team in Waltham, MA. You will also collaborate with internal/external partners on nucleic acid drug discovery projects to ensure timely execution of the experiments, and delivery of high-quality data. This role will have an autonomy owning various stakeholders, projects, and tasks in a dynamic start-up environment while keeping up the pace of Alloy.
HowYou’ll Drive Impact
- Innovate: Develop novel assays to elucidate the mechanism of action of novel ASO formats.
- Deliver: Design, execute, analyze, and interpret in vitro and in vivo experiments. Generate robust, high-quality data.
- Collaborate: Work closely with internal/external partners on drug discovery projects to ensure studies are executed to meet scientific goals and timelines.
- Design and execute several molecular biology and protein techniques including, but not limited to, nucleic acid isolation, RT-qPCR (ddPCR), Western blots and ELISA.
- Culture various cell types including established cell lines, primary cells and iPSCs.
- Perform a range of cell-based assays, including those utilizing high content imaging systems and plate readers for bright field/fluorescence/luminescence detection.
- Process rodent tissue for RNA extraction and downstream analysis to assess target RNA and ASO levels.
- Run various assays to assess ASO secondary structure formation, inter and intra-molecular ASO interaction and ASO-protein interaction.
- Operate high-throughput tools, including 96 channel electronic pipets to streamline and enhance experimental workflows.
- Analyze data using Graph Pad software and prepare presentation-ready images to effectively communicate experimental findings.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of all experiments using the Benchling electronic notebook, ensuring meticulous documentation and data integrity.
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Biology or related science.
- 1-3 years of additional experience in biotech/pharma (Research Associate), 4-6 years of experience (Principal Associate Scientist).
- Knowledge of antisense oligonucleotide modalities and their mechanism of action.
- Experience designing and executing molecular biology, protein and cell-based assays.
- Experience with animal handling (e.g. dissection, surgery, injection, imaging)
- Working experience with oligonucleotide and/or siRNA
- Experience of design and execution of Bioanalytical assays (e.g. MSD, ELISA)
