Research Associate – Analytical Chemistry

Waltham, MA | Full-time | Onsite | Permanent

Base salary: $65-75,000 per annum, with flexibility for the right candidate.

We’re partnering with a growing biotech company operating at the intersection of synthetic biology, biomanufacturing, and sustainable chemistry. The organization is focused on developing scalable biological solutions that replace traditionally sourced or petrochemical-derived molecules, enabling more efficient and sustainable production routes across multiple industries.

About the role

We are seeking a Research Associate in Analytical Chemistry to support a fast‑paced R&D environment focused on engineered microbial systems and enzymatic bioprocesses. You will be working on the analytical characterization of a wide range of biologically produced compounds generated through fermentation and biocatalysis, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary scientists across discovery and process development teams.

This is a hands‑on lab-based role with strong exposure to method development and real‑world problem solving in a highly collaborative setting. It’s well suited to someone looking to deepen their expertise in analytical science while contributing to cutting‑edge biochemical innovation.

What you’ll be doing
  • Execute and follow established analytical methods (SOPs) to quantify small molecules and biologics
  • Run and maintain routine analysis using chromatography‑based techniques
  • Support preparation, processing, and clear reporting of analytical data for cross‑functional teams
  • Contribute to the development, optimization, and validation of new analytical methods
  • Assist in troubleshooting instrument and method‑related issues as they arise
What we’re looking for
  • BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field
  • 1+ year of hands‑on experience in a laboratory setting
  • Practical experience with HPLC and/or GC systems
  • Strong core lab skills (pipetting, weighing, solution prep, etc.)
  • Confident use of Excel for data handling and reporting
  • Strong analytical mindset with good problem‑solving ability in a lab environment
Nice to have
  • Exposure to LC‑MS or GC‑MS instrumentation
  • Experience with method development, optimization, or validation
  • Familiarity with interpreting complex analytical datasets and troubleshooting assay performance

If you’re looking for a role where you can build strong analytical foundations while contributing to meaningful scientific innovation in a highly collaborative environment, this could be a great next step. Please apply with an up-to-date copy of your resume to be considered.
