About Abb Vie

Abb Vie's mission is to discover and deliver innovative medicines and solutions that address serious health issues today and tomorrow. The company impacts people’s lives across key therapeutic areas such as immunology, oncology, neuroscience, and the Allergan Aesthetics portfolio.

Job Description

The Precision Medicine Immunology department is seeking a highly motivated and talented Scientist with a background in immunology or immuno‑oncology and experience in single‑cell or spatial genomics, molecular biology, and cell biology. The Scientist will lead clinical biomarker discovery by profiling samples using single‑cell and spatial omics approaches to understand drug mechanisms and pharmacodynamics, and to drive data‑informed patient selection strategies.

The role supports drug development programs across inflammatory and autoimmune disease areas including Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and Fibrosis from late‑stage discovery through clinical trials, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently lead the design, execution, and analysis of complex genomic profiling experiments such as single‑cell RNA‑Seq, CITE‑Seq, and spatial transcriptomics/proteomics.
  • Perform image analysis for spatial transcriptomics and proteomics datasets, including de‑array, alignment, cell segmentation, and phenotyping.
  • Design, develop, and implement computational pipelines for processing and analyzing spatial omics data.
  • Identify technical artifacts, interpret quality control results, optimize assay performance, and deliver high‑quality data on time.
  • Stay at the forefront of the field by evaluating and validating novel scientific methodologies.
  • Present work plans and acquired data clearly to stakeholders through formal written reports and verbal updates.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (major or advanced) in bioinformatics, immunology, cell & molecular biology, pathology, or related biological sciences; B.S. with 12+ years, M.S. with 10+ years, Ph.D. with 4+ years of industrial biotechnology experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and conducting single‑cell and spatial omics studies for biomarker discovery.
  • Broad technical expertise in molecular and cell biology assays, especially single‑cell RNA‑seq and CITE‑seq.
  • Expertise in executing spatial omics experiments on platforms such as Cos Mx, Xenium, and Visium, integrated with molecular pathology techniques such as IHC and ISH.
  • Proficient in integrative analysis of multi‑dimensional datasets using R and Python.
  • Skilled in advanced image analysis platforms like Visio Pharm and HALO to derive quantitative insights.
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based architectures (AWS) and HPC environments for large‑scale genomic data processing.
  • Experience with machine‑learning frameworks and data visualization for complex biological pattern interpretation.
  • Strong project leadership and organizational skills, prioritizing tasks and allocating resources to meet aggressive timelines.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, communicating complex scientific data to diverse stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • A robust track record of scientific writing and high‑quality technical documentation.
Additional Information
  • The compensation range below reflects the range of possible base pay compensation the company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of posting based on the job grade. Pay within this range depends on factors including geographic location and other drivers.
  • The company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick leave), medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan for eligible employees.
