Brandeis University is delighted to announce a career opportunity as the Police Sergeant in the Public Safety/Campus Police Department.
The Police Sergeant manages and supervises campus police, security staff, and parking monitors, providing 24/7 coverage for the department and helping accomplish its mission to provide a safe and secure environment for all faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Responsibilities- Supervises police officers, security staff, and parking monitors; may also supervise student workers.
- Administers normal daily functions and routine assignments related to the protection and use of university buildings and grounds.
- Oversees all functions held on university property to ensure safety.
- Coordinates criminal investigations with Massachusetts trial courts and other police departments.
- Prepares written reports and media logs for all criminal and non‑criminal events.
- Reviews other officers’ reports for accuracy.
- Triages and logs calls, notifying appropriate personnel (security issue, medical assistance, repairs, etc.).
- Fills shift coverage, special event assignments, and weekly staff rosters.
- Maintains the campus alarm system, making necessary changes to ensure proper operation.
- Implements crime prevention initiatives.
- Supervises maintenance of roadways for emergency vehicle access.
- Acts as the highest ranking official after hours, weekends, and holidays, deciding who must be contacted for emergencies and general repairs.
- B.A. or B.S. preferred.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- Police Academy graduate.
- Must meet State Police requirements for Special State Police Officer powers.
- Current license to carry firearms.
- First Responder certification.
- CPR certification.
- Sexual Assault Investigator certification.
- Background Investigator certification.
- Non‑violent crisis intervention training.
- CJIS (criminal justice information systems) computer operator qualification.
- Strong communication and decision‑making skills.
Physical demands are greater than those for sedentary work. Candidates must remain on feet for extended periods, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb stairs, balance, walk, and run. They must be able to access all facilities on foot, perform visual surveillance, and operate equipment such as batons, automobiles, office equipment, radios, and telephones. Exposure to severe weather, temperature extremes, and loud noise is common, and moderate exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety is present.

Hiring range for this position: $95.8k – $104.0k. Actual pay will be based on experience, education, internal equity, and legal requirements.
