The physical demands of this position range from LIGHT to MEDIUM. This role involves installing, maintaining and repairing oil and gas fired boilers, gas and water piping systems, dishwashing and related kitchen equipment. All work is performed in accordance with OSHA regulations and university procedures. Standing, walking, lifting, carrying and reaching are performed frequently. Bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling and twisting occur occasionally.
Heavy lifting up to 25–50 pounds may require assistance.
- Maintain and repair sewage and drainage systems, cold water and domestic hot water systems.
- Assist the Life Safety Department with the fire sprinkler system during emergencies.
- Install and maintain campus watering piping systems.
- Install new and replacement plumbing equipment.
- Maintain grease traps and interceptors.
- Service gas-fired boilers, oil-fired boilers, and gas boilers for steam cooking; support dishwashing and related kitchen equipment.
- Participate in training to keep knowledge and skills current.
- Report building damages, malfunctioning equipment, and needed maintenance or repairs.
- Respond to emergency call-in situations.
- Interact professionally with the Bentley community.
- Enter data into the computerized work order system, recording time and work order information.
- Provide support for major campus activities such as snow removal, convocation, and commencements.
- Follow clean‑up, recycling, and safety procedures while handling tools and equipment.
- Assist other trades as directed by the Facilities Manager.
- Perform all other related duties necessary for Facilities Management.
- Minimum of 5 years full‑time plumbing experience.
- Valid Massachusetts Journeyman’s license.
- Master Plumber license preferred.
- Physical ability to perform essential duties.
- Ability to use electrical and mechanical equipment and tools.
- Competent reading, writing and interpreting English documents, including safety rules and material safety data sheets.
- Effective interaction and communication skills with co‑workers and supervisors.
- Availability for emergency call‑in situations.
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license; vehicle use may be required.
- Careful use and maintenance of Bentley tools, radios, and equipment.
May be exposed to seasonal temperature extremes, wet conditions, and moving mechanical parts. Work may occur in close spaces, heights, and climbing ladders and stairs. Noise levels vary from moderate to occasionally high.
- Squat, kneel, and maintain bent postures for 5–10 minutes continuously.
- Walk on level, uneven, and inclined surfaces; climb steps up to 24 and ladders up to 18 ft.
- Lift up to 25 lb individually and up to 100 lb with assistance; move loads up to 100 lb from 0–72 in height.
- Carry up to 25 lb up to 100 yd.
- Push and pull resistances up to 100 lb.
- Reach overhead handling up to 25 lb.
- Manipulate small parts, machine and vehicle controls, and hand tools frequently.
Bentley offers a “total rewards” package designed to attract, motivate, retain, and reward employees. Salary for this union position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly rate is $41.88.
