Position: Central Utility Operator - Per Diem

Central Utility Plant Operator – Per Diem Job Responsibilities

  • Operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems within the life science facility.
  • Calibration and regular adjustment of system controls to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving operational and functional issues related to utility systems.
  • Promptly responding to service calls and requests related to utility system issues.
  • Collaborating with other tradespeople, suppliers, and inspectors to ensure proper project work and code compliance.
  • Staying updated on changes in safety standards and utility system codes.
  • Maintaining clear communication with the facility manager, team members, and other relevant parties about work performed and the status of ongoing projects.
  • Completing work in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.

Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, And Education And/or Experience)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus vocational training or apprenticeship, and five years of related experience.
  • 2nd Fireman license or higher required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems.
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Ability to read system diagrams and technical manuals for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Working Conditions And/or

Physical Requirements
  • The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and perform physical labor related to maintenance and repair.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Possible frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Availability to respond to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
