Job DescriptionPart-Time Family Liaison
- Valor High School
Position Summary:
The Family Liaison strengthens family-school partnerships that help every student thrive. This role fosters a sense of belonging and connection by ensuring families have access to the information, resources, and opportunities they need to support their child’s learning and growth. The Family Liaison also helps create meaningful ways for families and caregivers to share their perspectives and participate in decisions that shape their child’s experience and the broader school community.
Family engagement is most powerful when it is both systemic—woven into the structures and practices of the school—and intentional—rooted in purposeful, relationship-based strategies that build trust and collaboration among families, educators, and community partners. The Family Liaison serves as a bridge between home and school, providing support, referrals, and advocacy for all families, and helping connect them to relevant school and community resources, with particular attention to those who may face barriers to access.
In addition to serving their individual school community, each Family Liaison is an active member of the Waltham Public Schools Family Engagement Team, participating in monthly department meetings and district events that advance shared goals for equity and engagement across the district.
IEP meetings; discipline hearings; evening events. In collaboration with the administrative team, they design and facilitate school- and community-based events that foster family engagement, celebrate student learning, and strengthen school-community connections. Create and support opportunities for families to share their perspectives, contribute to decision-making, and participate in school life. Communicate regularly with families in accessible and culturally responsive ways. Support families in learning how to access and use school platforms and other technologies to stay connected with their child’s education.
Participate in monthly interagency meetings with community-based partners, and actively build awareness of, and relationships with, local organizations and service providers. Serve as a School-based initial point of contact to the Parent Information Center, supporting families with school registration, enrollment, and transportation processes.
