Principal Software Engineer

Position Overview

• Job Title: Principal Software Engineer
• Company: Publicly traded Bio Pharma/Life Sciences Services
• Location: Remote (US)

You will join the team building a unified cloud-native platform that serves over 1 million scientists worldwide. Your code will directly support the "Design-Make-Test-Decide" lifecycle, helping pharmaceutical and biotech companies bring life‑saving therapies to market faster.

• Core Backend: Python (Some legacy Java)
• Cloud Infrastructure: AWS (S3, Lambda, EC2, RDS)
• Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes
• Frontend: React / Type Script (for full‑stack context)

• Technical Architecture: Design and own architecture for critical components of the Data Factory and Lab Notebook Suite, ensuring high availability and scalability for processing petabytes of scientific data.
• Hands‑on Development: Write high‑quality, testable, and secure Python for complex data transformation pipelines and RESTful microservices.
• Technical Leadership: Guide and mentor senior and mid‑level engineers on best practices, code reviews, and design patterns without necessarily having direct management reports.
• Innovation: Prototype and integrate emerging technologies (including AI/ML workflows) to enhance the capability of scientists to analyze chemical and biological data.

  Partner with Product Management and UX to translate complex scientific requirements into robust technical specifications.

• 5‑10+ years of Software Engineering experience
• 5‑10+ years of Technical Lead experience, driving AI business initiatives
• 5‑10+ years of designing and implementing AI infrastructure, including building applications powered by LLMs
• 5‑10+ years of programming skills in Python and Java
• Bonus: Experience with Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, or laboratory workflows is a significant plus.
• Bonus: Bachelor or Master in Computer Science or related field.
