Boston Dynamics seeks a Software Developer in HIL Test Automation to build and expand Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) and simulation infrastructure for the Atlas Humanoid Robot. In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and performance of our Atlas robot through robust automation. We are rapidly growing and building a commercial company that delivers cutting‑edge technology and solutions to our customers from industrial applications to logistics and warehouse solutions.
Responsibilities- Establish tools and processes to monitor key system performance indicators (KPIs) on our HIL and simulated systems.
- Develop tools to ensure our automation avoids system bottlenecks, such as network bandwidth, CPU usage, and available memory.
- Develop, refine, and validate realistic sensor models for Atlas, including sensors, camera, and actuator modeling, and collaborate with the Atlas teams to ensure the models accurately reflect noise characteristics, latency, and real‑world performance.
- Profile and optimize Python automation and test infrastructure code for speed and stability, enabling faster iteration of test runs.
- Build and maintain Python‑based test infrastructure, supporting tools, and pipelines to enhance developer efficiency and scale testing capabilities across the organization.
- Be familiar with using Atlas, developing automated test cases, and setting up workflows in Jira or other tools.
- 2+ years of prior software development, with strong experience in Python for automation and scripting.
- Experience with C/C++ is a plus.
- Extensive experience with performance optimization of systems, with a focus on Linux expertise.
- Analytical expertise – ability to develop, interpret, and present system reports and understand them.
- Experience with Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) testing and lab automation is highly desirable.
- Experience with robotic simulations.
- Excellent debugging skills, both overall methodology and knowledge of available tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with source code control, build, and CI/CD tool chains, specifically Git/Git Hub, and familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Circle
CI, Git Lab CI/CD, or similar. - Experience with real‑time systems and multi‑threaded programming.
- Previous experience working on legged or humanoid robot platforms.
