Role Description & Responsibilities
SOLIDWORKS - "Authentic Design Experience" SOLIDWORKS is our set of 3D CAD design, simulation, data management, and collaboration tools.
We are building next-generation AI agents that interact with CAD software to automate and optimize complex engineering workflows. You will design, develop, and deploy AI agents that can understand engineering instructions, manipulate Solid Works models programmatically, and integrate into design pipelines.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, CAD automation, and software engineering, directly impacting how engineers design and model products.
The team is seeking an AI Software Engineer to join our Waltham, MA office.
* Design and develop AI agents capable of interacting with Solid Works via APIs.
* Build multi-step reasoning workflows where AI agents parse instructions, plan tasks, and execute CAD operations.
* Integrate AI agents with client-server architectures using Web Socket, REST, or other communication protocols.
* Implement automated generation of sketches and 3D models.
* Debug and optimize AI agent workflows, ensuring robust and accurate outputs.
* Evaluate agent performance, tune prompts, and reduce hallucinations in structured engineering tasks.
* Collaborate with mechanical engineers, UI/UX developers, and product teams to create and implement AI agentic workflows.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering with 2-3 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 0-2 years, or a closely related technical field
* AI / ML Foundations - Strong understanding of:
* LLMs (prompting, fine-tuning, evaluation)
* Embeddings, vector search (RAG systems)
* Agent frameworks (multi-step reasoning, tool use)
Experience with :
* Lang Chain or Llama Index
* OpenAI / Gemini / Claude APIs
* Familiarity with:
* Function calling / tool usage patterns
* Memory + planning in agents
* Programming Skills
* Python (primarily for AI)
* C# (application programming)
* Type Script (front-end programming)
Nice to have:
* REST + Web Socket systems.
* Async programming
Geometry + Spatial Reasoning - Understanding of:
* 2D → 3D transformations
* Coordinate systems
Ability to:
* Interpret geometry instructions
* Learn the basics of solid modeling
