Duties Description
The Park Supervisor 2, SG-14 will be located at Jones Beach State Park in the Long Island Region. The Park Supervisor 2 position will report directly to the Park Manager 1, SG-18 and provide operational and administrative support to park management staff as needed.
Supervision And Staff Management- Supervise permanent and seasonal staff engaged in maintenance and operations activities.
- Recruit, train, schedule, assign tasks, and evaluate staff performance.
- Monitor time and attendance, approve schedules, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Conduct staff training and safety briefings.
- Delegate routine maintenance, landscaping, special projects, and minor rehabilitation projects.
- Inspect completed work to ensure tasks are performed safely and efficiently.
- Oversee maintenance of facilities, buildings, grounds, and large-scale parking areas.
- Troubleshoot building systems and coordinate referrals to skilled trades staff.
- Conduct routine inspections and initiate corrective actions.
- Oversee landscaping, gardens, lawns, bike paths, and roadways.
- Supervise vehicles and equipment operations.
- Maintain stock of PPE and supplies and prepare procurement materials lists.
- Conduct safety inspections including fire extinguishers, AEDs, playgrounds, and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with NYSDOH and NYSDEC regulations.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response procedures.
- Maintain facility logs, fuel logs, and maintenance records.
- Prepare administrative and operational reports.
- Assist with revenue control, inventory management, and facility budgets.
- Address patron complaints and ADA-related issues.
- Provide professional customer service.
- Coordinate with concessionaires, municipalities, and community groups.
- Support concerts, beachfront operations, parking, and Bandshell activities.
- Assist with park-wide and regional special events.
- Coordinate park-wide operational activities in the absence of higher-level supervision.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate with various police agencies and emergency personnel.
- Supervise staff during major events and incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Qualifications
- Either
1. four years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus; one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level; - Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours AND two years as described in No. 1 above; one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.
- For the purposes of this examination a park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
- For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.
Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. - Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the NYS Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service.
