What You'll Learn & Do- Electrical Systems:
Troubleshoot, repair, and wire 120V and 3‑phase 460V AC circuits, 24V DC control circuits, and install distribution systems up to 460V. - Motor & Control Expertise:
Wire single‑phase, 3‑phase 460V, and 3‑phase 4160V motors according to NEC/OSHA codes; troubleshoot and install coils, contractors, relays, and brakes. - Advanced Equipment:
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on process equipment, plant lighting, electrical circuits, motors, starters, MCCs, PLCs, control panels, transformers, switches, transmitters, automatic valves, regulators, and overhead cranes. - Instrumentation & Controls:
Understand and repair guiding systems, troubleshoot control valves and transmitters, and gain a solid grasp of pneumatic controls (controllers, actuators, positioners). - System Knowledge:
Interpret P&, hydraulic, pneumatic, and wiring drawings/diagrams; locate equipment I/O for various processes; gain general knowledge of mill electrical and pneumatic systems. - Testing & Diagnostics:
Use and interpret tools like Megohm meters and multimeters to accurately diagnose issues. - Infrastructure
Skills:
Safely rack in/out 460V, 4160V, and 12.47kV breakers; run/bend conduit and pull wire. - Equipment Operation:
Safely operate motorized equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, Genie lifts, hoists, and cranes. - Documentation & Communication:
Read orders, perform math, understand technical manuals, and compose shift logs, reports, and emails. - Housekeeping & Support:
Participate in general housekeeping, including washing, sweeping, shoveling debris, cleaning leaks/spills, and emptying garbage cans. - Continuous Improvement:
Contribute to process troubleshooting based on equipment design knowledge and perform other tasks as needed by Mill Management.
- Education:
A post‑secondary educational degree (2‑to‑4 year) from a college, university, technical school, military, vocational, or other advanced institution is required. - Mechanical & Electrical Aptitude:
Basic understanding of electricity and instrumentation, with a strong willingness to learn and apply new technical skills. - Problem‑Solving
Skills:
Ability to diagnose issues, learn from experienced technicians, and work toward effective solutions. - Safety First Mindset:
Commitment to safety, including guards, plant safety rules, securing electrical panels, disconnecting abandoned wiring, adhering to PPE requirements, eye and hearing protection, and lockout/tag‑out procedures. - Physical Dexterity:
Work with hand and power tools, manual dexterity with both hands, climb in/out of motorized equipment, operate pedals and lift controls, maneuver equipment safely. Lift up to 50 lbs safely and request help for heavier items. - Mental Acuity:
Read orders and reports, communicate orally, operate a calculator for basic math, and basic typing skills. - Learning Aptitude:
Proven record of learning new concepts and commitment to ongoing educational and certification training programs. - Team Player:
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with all personnel. - Background Checks:
Successful completion of drug testing/screening, background checks, physical exam, and reference checks. - Availability:
May require assignment to a rotating shift schedule.
