Job DescriptionWare Middle School is seeking a Special Education Teacher serving students 4‑6 who have significant social/emotional and educational challenges. Our mission is to provide positive and meaningful pathways towards academic engagement with a goal of maintaining a safe, respectful and caring learning community. Utilizing a relationship‑based approach, we connect with members of each student’s team including family members and the community.
This allows us to gain insight into barriers that limit student success. We work together to develop interventions and break through these barriers so students can return to the general education setting safely.
- Works under the direction of the School Principal and in collaboration with the student support team including Social Worker/Behavior support, Adjustment Counselor, and Special Education Liaisons.
- Remains up to date regarding curriculum content and expected grade level standards.
- Effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction.
- Implements 504/IEP goals as developed by the team.
- Develops and implements intervention strategies and activities to assist teachers in implementing behavioral plans.
- Works as an internal coach providing support and consultation to students with challenging behaviors in the general and Special Education classrooms.
- Assists in the development of social/emotional/behavioral curriculum to be used with students in special education classes in compliance with the requirements of Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum.
- Familiar with Culturally Responsive SEL, Trauma Informed Practices, and Restorative Practices.
- Participates in SAT (Student Assistance Team) meetings as needed and assists staff to evaluate data‑based behavior interventions.
- Develop, implement, and model positive intervention support strategies to address skill development in the areas of SEB.
- Supports communication of student presentation, skill development and intervention plans in collaboration with classroom teachers and building administration.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
$54,373-$93,870, commensurate with experience
Position Type: Full‑time
Job Requirements- Teacher of Students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Successful teaching experience in special education and/or early childhood preferred.
- At least 3 years experience in PreK to 12 school setting.
- Familiar with 603 CMR regulations and policies.
