As a collaborative member of the Preschool team, this Special Education Teacher is responsible for teaching students ages 3-5 in an integrated special education preschool program at SMK Elementary School. The Preschool Special Education Teacher works in consultation with special education teams to provide a developmentally appropriate, fun and accessible learning experience for students with disabilities and their peers. The Preschool Special Education Teacher will manage a continuous caseload, providing specialized instruction that allows students to progress academically and socially;
ensuring that documented accommodations are delivered consistently; participating in professional learning communities; providing parent communication; developing and implementing IEPs; developing and implementing behavioral interventions; and working with paraprofessional staff to ensure a high‑quality program for Ware’s youngest students.
- Oversee programming for students in the Integrated Special Education Preschool classroom.
- Provide specialized instruction enabling all students to engage in instruction based on best practice standards for preschool students.
- Work with the classroom support team and related services to develop data‑taking mechanisms, analyze data, and drive instruction while monitoring student progress.
- Maintain consistent positive relationships with students and manage student behavior with positive student management strategies.
- Collaborate across school settings and with parents and community agencies to improve student outcomes, creating and implementing IEPs.
- Write an effective IEP with SMART goals and reasonable accommodations, generating progress reports using data.
- Administer, interpret, and report findings from standardized evaluations, including remote assessments if needed.
- Present evidence of student progress toward goals and objectives professionally during special education meetings.
- Evaluate students’ readiness, academics, and social development using formal and informal measures.
- Support and assist paraprofessionals and other school personnel in implementing classroom goals and IEP accommodations, modifications, and goals.
- Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies to increase student access to learning.
- Modify or adapt materials, instructional lessons, etc., to meet specific needs as identified in IEPs.
- Integrate social‑emotional learning (SEL) and strategies into lesson planning.
- Use technology to provide access to learning and to teach in a remote learning environment, if needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the building Principal, Special Education Director, or Preschool Director.
$54,373 - $93,870, commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements- Letter of Interest, Resume, Proof of Certification, Bachelor’s degree required, Original Transcripts, Three current or prior employment letters of reference.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
