Long Term Substitute – Special Education Teacher
Starting Date: Aug 25, 2026
Job DescriptionWareham Public Schools seeks a Long Term Special Education Substitute Teacher for the period August 25, 2026 – December 2026.
Responsibilities- Evaluate current strategies and interventions for students; modify or develop appropriate behavior and/or educational interventions using information from the IEP, Functional Behavior Assessment, direct observation, school input, and other sources.
- Provide individual educational and behavioral support to enable students to improve academically and behaviorally.
- Participate in designing IEPs and attending meetings as needed.
- Implement educationally sound services and supports to allow students to remain in the least restrictive setting appropriate for their educational and behavioral needs.
- Communicate and engage families in the educational life of students in the program.
- Provide training, consultation, and other support activities to staff working with special education students across a variety of settings.
- Provide direction and training to paraprofessional staff assigned to the classroom.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret evaluation and assessment data for individual students/programs.
- Collaborate with outside agencies, service providers, and other consultants to improve programming for students with behaviors.

Job Requirements- Applicant must have an active license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Moderate/Severe Profound Special Needs. Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training is required. Must have successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
