About the role

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is a member of Reworld’s Environmental team and plays a key role in supporting environmental compliance across a complex waste-to-energy operation and related environmental facilities. This is a hands-on operating-facility position intended for an environmental professional with industrial compliance experience, not a laboratory, academic, or research-focused background.

This role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact on facility operations while gaining broad exposure to environmental programs including air, CEMS, water, ash, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, and solid waste compliance. Working alongside an experienced environmental leader, you will build technical expertise, expand your regulatory knowledge, and see how your work directly contributes to safe, compliant, and sustainable operations.

The Environmental Compliance Specialist supports permitting, testing, inspections, regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and corrective-action programs across multiple facility types. The role partners closely with operations, contractors, consultants, laboratories, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance, improve environmental performance, and support business objectives. This role combines office-based environmental compliance responsibilities with regular field work throughout an active industrial operating environment.

Key Responsibilities Partner with the Senior SEMASS Environmental Compliance Specialist to maintain compliant air, CEMS, ash, solid-waste, stormwater, wastewater, potable-water, and hazardous-waste programs.

Participate directly in permit applications, renewals, modifications, and supporting documentation for facility construction, operation, and expansion.

Complete environmental testing, monitoring, data review, documentation, and regulatory reports; ensure records and submittals are accurate, complete, timely, and retained to Reworld and regulatory standards.

Conduct environmental walkdowns at SEMASS and satellite facilities; document findings, work with operations to establish corrective actions, and follow items through closure.

Support air-emissions and CEMS compliance activities, including review of testing data, emissions records, equipment logs, and related reporting.

Coordinate environmental testing and compliance work at satellite facilities directly and with consultants, engineers, and testing laboratories.

Work with facility operations and maintenance teams to identify compliance risks, improve environmental performance, and maintain readiness for regulatory inspections.

Monitor regulatory changes and support updates to compliance plans, test methods, permits, and operating procedures.

Support Reworld growth initiatives and the SEMASS community outreach program for mercury and mercury-containing-product diversion.

Required Background Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline. Relevant power-plant, industrial-operations, or military experience may be considered in place of a degree.
