Overview

The Sanitation Manager at our Chatham Village Foods plant will drive daily core sanitation activities while leading a team of hourly and salaried associates. This role is responsible for the efficient sanitation of production equipment, machinery, the physical plant, and grounds in accordance with all government, customer, and company policies and procedures.

As a leader in a 24‑hour manufacturing environment, this role primarily supports daytime operations and requires scheduling flexibility based on operational needs. Availability is expected during key periods, including Monday mornings and Friday evenings, with occasional Saturday coverage as needs evolve. When Saturday work is required, the schedule is typically flexed by taking another weekday off, aligned with business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate shift activities through planning and communication with employees to ensure all sanitation objectives are achieved in a timely, cost‑effective, and safe manner.
  • Develop and manage plans and budgets for the sanitation area.
  • Develop and implement a master sanitation schedule/program for all processing and packaging equipment and storage vessels in accordance with company and FDA standards.
  • Oversee the storage, handling, and use of cleaning chemicals to prevent unauthorized access or use.
  • Control and minimize overtime labor costs while ensuring adequate coverage.
  • Monitor usage of all cleaning and sanitizing chemicals to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

    Maintain close working relationships with Quality Assurance and respond immediately to deviations from established standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and schedule proactive training programs focused on safety and sanitary conditions to support ongoing development of sanitation personnel.
  • Develop, train, mentor, and coach employees and supervisors to meet company and regulatory standards for sanitation and safety in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain positive employee, corporate, and community relations.
  • Coordinate with department managers and shift supervisors to ensure smooth and effective shift start‑ups.
  • Maintain company standards for cleanliness, housekeeping, and safety throughout the plant.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, food safety, and HACCP programs, and assure conformity with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, industrial management, or a related field preferred
  • 3–5 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a food manufacturing setting
  • Strong understanding of sanitation design in a food manufacturing environment
  • Experience and/or training in sanitation, COP systems, and chemical usage
  • Working knowledge of sanitation equipment, methods, chemicals, and manufacturing machinery
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working Conditions/Environment
  • Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, hear, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally bend while moving throughout the facility
  • May be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and the risk of electrical shock
  • Works around powered equipment, slippery floors, and dusty areas
  • May experience very hot conditions during summer months
  • Noise levels are moderate in office areas and loud in the plant environment
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in the plant, including earplugs, hairnets, beard nets (if applicable), safety glasses, and slip‑resistant/steel‑toe shoes in accordance with company GMP and safety standards
