Position:Public Safety Officer
Hours: 24 hours per week
Shift: Night shift, 11:00 pm – 7:00 am with weekend and holiday rotation
Location: Tobey Hospital – Wareham, MA

Under the general supervision of the Public Safety Operations Manager, Shift Supervisor, or designee, the Public Safety Officer protects and secures Southcoast Health System (SHS) and Southcoast Hospitals Group (SHG) assets, information, and the safety of all persons on hospital/SHS property. The Officer proactively guards against fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry to SHG grounds and/or buildings while controlling access points.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred
- Prior military, security, corrections, police, or relevant experience is a plus
- May be required to obtain Special Police/Constable powers within a designated municipality
- Three months up to and including one year of relevant experience required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be able to obtain a Massachusetts Firearms Identification Card and License to Carry Firearms (Pistol Permit) within six months to one year; must complete Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De‑Escalation Training; OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), and Baton (PPBT) training within 120 days of hire
- BLS, CPR, and First Responder certifications required within 120 days of hire
- Eligible to obtain appointment as a special police officer in Massachusetts under MGL c.22C § 63 or as a New Bedford Special Police Officer under city/NBPD requirements
- Must obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification within one year of appointment
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID‑19, or declare a medical or personal exemption in writing upon hire
Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
Pay RangeUSD $22.22 – $30.30 per hour.
