Job Description
Express seeks a Certified Payroll Specialist to manage end-to-end payroll operations, tax withholding, and regulatory compliance.
Compensation: $44,000.00 - $50,000.00 annually
Core Responsibilities
- Payroll Processing: Managing the complete, cyclical lifecycle of employee compensation for hourly and salaried workers.
- Data Maintenance: Inputting and auditing employee data, including new hires, terminations, rate adjustments, and direct deposit information.
- Time Tracking: Verifying digital timesheets and correcting discrepancies to ensure correct wage distribution.
- Deduction Administration: Calculating and processing voluntary benefits deductions, 401(k) allocations, and mandatory court-ordered garnishments.
- Tax Compliance: Computing and filing federal, multi-state, and local payroll taxes under regional labor and tax guidelines.
- Regulatory Reporting: Creating internal payroll metrics, monthly ledger journal entries, and annual reporting variables like W-2 and tax forms.
- System Auditing: Conducting regular internal database audits and supplying records to external corporate auditors.
- Employee Support: Answering internal staff inquiries regarding paycheck distribution, tax with holdings, and benefits payouts.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Professional Certification: Possession of a CPP credential, Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or NACPB CPS designation.
- Software Proficiency: Experience handling enterprise platforms like Workday, ADP, Paychex, Gusto, or Quick Books Payroll.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep mastery of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), multi-state tax jurisdictions, and local labor mandates.
- Technical Skillsets: Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Excel, database administration, and general financial accounting.
- Interpersonal Abilities: Strict attention to record detail, high confidentiality standards, and strong communication skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Work Experience: 2 to 5 years of dedicated corporate payroll experience.
