The Electrical Estimator provides accurate and competitive cost estimates for industrial, commercial, and energy‑sector projects. This role requires strong analytical ability, knowledge of NEC and local codes, and proficiency with estimating software. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to prepare proposals, evaluate risks, and support project execution. This position is central to winning bids, maintaining profitability, and building customer trust.

Requirements ESSENTIAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESTIMATING & BIDDING
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate quantity takeoffs, labor calculations, and material pricing.
  • Develop competitive proposals, including scope of work (SOW) documents and clarifications.
  • Incorporate value engineering options and identify cost‑saving alternatives.
  • Maintain and update estimating templates, cost databases, and pricing standards.
COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
  • Attend pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, field supervisors, and procurement to align estimates with execution strategies.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for accurate pricing and scope coverage.
  • Provide input to project schedules and manpower planning during pre‑construction.
PROJECT SUPPORT
  • Support project managers in change order pricing and cost analysis during execution.
  • Review and evaluate subcontractor proposals for completeness and competitiveness.
  • Participate in project hand‑off meetings to transition awarded projects to operations.
STANDARDS & COMPLIANCE
  • Maintain knowledge of NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and local building codes affecting cost and constructability.
  • Adhere to IES estimating procedures and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure all estimates are prepared in line with company quality, safety, and compliance standards.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical estimating with commercial, industrial, or energy projects.
  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Associate’s or bachelor’s in construction management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of design/build projects in manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, and commercial facilities.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (Accubid, Plan Swift, or similar).
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and relevant construction codes.
  • Experience in value engineering, cost analysis, and proposal development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast‑paced environment.
PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS
  • Work performed primarily in an office setting with site visits as required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites, customer offices, or vendor locations.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk using a computer.
  • May require walking job sites, climbing stairs/ladders, and exposure to construction environments.
  • Ability to pass IES pre‑employment physical and drug screen.

  • Requires professional communication and collaboration to support business objectives.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Full‑time, 40+ hours per week.
  • Some travel to field sites and customer offices for site walks, presentations, or project hand‑offs (10–15%).
  • Flexibility required for bid deadlines.
PERFORMANCE METRICS
  • Bid accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Estimates completed on or ahead of deadline.
  • Minimal rework required during execution.
  • Positive feedback from project managers on scope clarity and cost data.
