This position ensures the effective organization of the middle school athletic program to include the instructional programs and related activities in support of the system’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic, for the school.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
- Serves as head football coach.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events in keeping with guidelines provided by the principal.
- Coordinates the scheduling of officials, medical personnel, and security as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of the athletes during athletic activities.
- Enforces the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verifies each athlete’s eligibility.
- Prepares all eligibility forms and forwards them to participating schools and coaches according to established time schedules.
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
- Requisition s, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs.
- Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events connected with the athletic and physical education programs, and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
- Communicates with visiting teams regarding needs, such as gymnasium and field assistance, as appropriate.
- Monitors arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields (open areas) and facilities.
- Arranges the practice schedules for the coaches on the fields and in the gymnasiums.
- Administers the insurance program covering school athletes.
- Keeps records of the results of all middle school athletic contests.
- Coordinates the budgeting, scheduling, and preparation of the athletic fields for each athletic activity sponsored by the school.
- Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
- Accomplishes duties, responsibilities, and identified goals described during the yearly personnel evaluation interview and assessment instrument.
- Performs teaching duties as assigned by the building principal and fulfills all responsibilities of a classroom.
- Works collaboratively with the school administration staff to support the total school program.
- Organizes and directs the physical education program ensuring that equipment is ordered and maintained appropriately.
- Directs an in-school extracurricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among nonparticipants.
- Performs any other duties as requested by the principal.

- Education and/or
Experience:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Advanced degree a plus. Three years of professional teaching in a classroom setting preferred. - Certificate or License
Required:
Must have a valid Georgia Professional teaching certificate in assigned area. - Language
Skills:
Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. - Mathematical
