Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teacher Position Summary

The Houston Accelerated Scholars Program (HASP) seeks an exceptionally strong instructor to launch and lead advanced coursework in Artificial Intelligence for a highly selective cohort of students. This position supports the district’s accelerated STEM pathway and will begin with Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, expanding into Concepts and Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

The course sequence prepares students to understand, evaluate, and develop AI solutions in academic and real-world contexts.

Potential Course Assignments

The instructor may be asked to teach:

  • Foundations of Artificial Intelligence
  • Concepts of Artificial Intelligence
  • Applications of Artificial Intelligence

Course assignments will be based on student enrollment and program needs.

Qualifications
  • Valid Georgia certification in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or eligibility)
Additional Expectations
  • Capacity to teach advanced concepts in artificial intelligence, including programming, machine learning foundations, data science, and ethical reasoning
  • Ability to connect AI concepts to real-world applications and emerging career pathways
  • Experience with project-based learning and applied technology preferred
  • Ability to build strong academic relationships with high-achieving students
  • Willingness to collaborate with district leadership and post-secondary partners
Summary and relationship to the curriculum

This position ensures the implementation of the State and Local adopted curriculum in support of the system’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches at an appropriate instructional level.
  • Provides teacher-focused and student-focused content development.
  • Provides initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries.
  • Assess and encourage student progress.
  • Monitors student progress.
  • Responds to adequate and inadequate student performances.
  • Supports students.
  • Handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately.
  • Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.
  • Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  • Follows professional practices consistent with school system, and state policies in working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students, and parents.
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  • Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
  • Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  • Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  • Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
  • Models correct use of language, oral and written.
  • Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  • Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
  • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings.
  • Maintains professional relationships.
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.
